DORE WELCOMING SPACE.
Way back in Autumn 2022 when there were first discussions about "Warm Spaces" for the coming winter, we were anxious to develop such a space in Dore. At the time we had a "Coffee Club" meeting in the hall on a Wednesday morning, and after discussions we decided to develop this into a "Welcoming Space" open to all. Because of our involvement with "People Keeping Well in S17", a liaison group involving Sheffield AgeUK, Sheffield Council Members and Officers and representatives of other voluntary groups working in the area, we were able to access some Council funding to start this activity. The Sheffield Methodist District also made a contribution to our set-up costs.
We started in January 2023 and are open every Wednesday Morning from 10-30 a.m. to 1-00 p.m. We are open to all ages and offer tea/coffee and biscuits, together with a light lunch - either quiche and salad during warmer weather or soup and a roll when the weather is cooler! We have board games if anyone wants to play, newspapers to read, free wifi access, but mainly people just want to sit and chat to others. We make no charge for any of this, but any donations are appreciated.
We are also able to offer some limited local transport from and to people's homes on a minibus provided by Transport17. There is, however, a charge for this.
So if you are at home wondering what to do on a Wednesday morning, why not give us a try. We would be delighted to meet you. Or if you want more information give us a ring on 0114 2351085.
We gratefully acknowledge the continuing support from "People Keeping Well in S17 Group", Sheffield City Council and Transport17.
